Over 80% of you have precognitive powers!

My second novel, The Distance Travelled, has been sold to:



Expanded from my 15,000-word Prime novelette (which is still available here), this is an 85,000-word novel version of the story. Dave Barnett at Necro Publications emailed me this afternoon and made an offer on the book, which I've accepted. FUCK YEAH.

So, here are the details so far:

Print run: An unknown amount of signed limited deluxe hardcovers, based on pre-orders alone; 100 regular signed limited hardcovers; and 300 trade paperbacks
Pub date: late 2005 / early 2006
Advance: Yes! (rad, yo!)
Cover artist: I'm pushing for my good friend and oft-collaborator, Homeros Gilani, who did this, as well as the frontispiece in the novelette version of Distance. But Dave might want to use this other guy who's doing the new Jeffrey Thomas book for him. Either way, I ain't gonna bitch. (The artwork on the novelette version's cover was done by Herod Gilani, Homeros' brother. Fucking talented family.)

So, um, now I shall say WOW, FUCKING WOW, HOLY SHIT, COOL!!!!!!

I. Sold. A Novel.

When it's published and I'm holding it in my arms, coddling it, cooing to it, stroking its glistening cover, giving it reach-arounds, etc., I shall close my eyes and be happy to promptly die on the spot.

I've sold over 40 short stories, two novelettes, one three-way short fiction collection, one co-authored novella (I needn't tell anyone what that one's called!), and a whack of articles and essays, but for whatever reason, this novel sale feels the best of them all. Maybe it's 'cause I love the book, I love these characters, and I'm so glad people are going to be able to read about them—and in fine fashion, 'cause Necro does fucking beautiful books.

I am over the moon tonight.

Congratulations! I remember that feeling well. The day I got the news I'd sold The Concrete Sky I got in a little trouble at work because I kept sneaking out to call everyone I knew and gibber into their voice mail. Hope you're still grinning like an idiot for days to come. :)

Thanks, Hannah! I had to restrain myself from shouting while making the poll. The only reason I was able to contain myself was that I needed confirmation from Necro that I could announce the sale.
